Fancy(33" X 24"")
I've used a wonderful texture to hook the horse in this rug. The texture suggests movement and provides definition in the body of this horse. He's a "star" under saddle as suggested by the stars in all 4 corners. Hooked in an 8-cut.

Penny Pony (15" X 12" not including tongues)
Several years ago I learned to make "pennies and tongues" from Laurie Simpson (www.minickandsimpson.com). The more I stitched, the more I enjoyed making them. This pattern was created as a way to incorporate the look of the blanket stitching around my pennies and tongues into my rug hooking. The resulting pattern is great fun to hook. It's drawn on 100% primitive linen and includes directions for how to hook the "blanket stitch" around the edge of the horse. Also included is the pattern I used for the "tongue." I hooked with an 8-cut and used only two colors for the whole project.

Olde Glory Stars (34" X 10")
I created this pattern for the July 2007 issue of The Wool Street Journal. It's hooked in an 8 cut in traditional patriotic colors. It started out on the top of one of my painted cupboards, but it's now moved to the center of the table on our screened porch. It's a perfect size to fit anywhere you want to display your work. Although I used traditional patriotic colors I think it would be beautiful hooked in many other colorways.

Up On The Roof (36 X 36)
Here's a whimsical log cabin showing off it's patriotic spirit. That's my horse jumping over the roof. I hooked this in an 8 cut using many different overdyed wools. The rug hangs over the mantel in my tavern room and it really picks up the colors of my painted pieces. Several friends have hooked this rug, one with a crow on the roof and another with her cat in the place of my horse.

God Bless (33 X 9, not including the pennants)
Designed and hooked by my good friend, Suzanne Bruno. When I saw it completed I knew I had to buy the design so I could share it with you. It's hooked in an 8 cut and has blanket stitched, wool "pennants" around the edge. Suzanne hooked with beautiful mottled wools and carried those wools over into the pennants. The design includes a pattern for the wool pennants.

Komali King (24 X 30)
Designed by me and hooked by my friend, Nancy King of Simply Primitives in North Conway, NH (www.simplyprimitivegifts.com). Nancy hooked this rug as a birth sampler for her first grandson, Elliott. You can personalize this piece by hooking the name on the elephant's rug and the date on the ball at the tip of his trunk. Or, you can leave the date off as Nancy chose to do. This rug was hooked in an 8 cut.

This was the very first pattern I drew and my first hooked rug. It depicts my horse and it will always be near and dear to my heart. It is hooked in a 6 cut, but the pattern is perfectly suited to a larger sized strip. Can be personalized with the name of your horse, or the name can be left off

This mat was created as an auction item for the annual benefit auction at The McLaughlin Garden in South Paris, Maine (www.mclaughlingarden.org). Pas de Deux (21 X 34 or 29 ˝ X 47)
Polly Minick very graciously gave me permission to re-interpret one of her designs. This rug was drawn to be hooked in an 8 or 9 cut. A Pas de Deux is a dressage exhibition performed by two horses, often to music. It is a beautiful example of the choreography of movement and symmetry of two horses.

"He's A Dandy" (30 X 22)
This rug was so much fun to hook! Many years ago I fell in love with a whirligig I saw at auction and it sparked the idea for this design. I used two shades of tan in the background and hooked them randomly throughout. His pants are hooked using a red/white/blue piece of fabric. I bound the rug in blue/cream ticking and I think it added just the right touch of whimsy to this rug. It is hooked in an 8 cut.

Another patriotic pattern that I used on top of one of my antique foot stools. It is also the perfect size to use on your table as a candle mat or under a vase of your favorite flowers. It was great fun to hook in an 8 cut. This little mat hooks up very quickly and it would make a wonderful gift.
